The region includes the territory of Sakar mountain. Although its high potential for tourism, the tourist infrastructure in the region is not developed, because long years it has been a restricted territory, because of its proximity with the National boundary with Turkey.
Sakar mountain impresses with the incredible beauty of the wild nature and the great diversity of flora and fauna. The place is one of the richest in Bulgarian in threaten with extinction rapacious birds. The highest peak is Vishegrad (856,3 meters), and the lowest point is the spillway of Toklu dere - 45 meters.
A sight of interest there is the Ustrem monastery 'St. Trinity', known as Vakavski or Haidushki.
The most important administrative center there is Topolovgrad.
