Bulgarians Spend Record Amounts This Christmas
Whilst some Western countries maybe having to tighten their belts during the winter holidays, this isn't the case for Bulgaria. Bulgarians spent a record 800 M BGN over the winter holidays; an 80M BGN increase from last year. At the same time, the country enjoyed a higher than expected economic growth of 7.1% making it one of the best performing economies in Europe. << Back to list of articles
200M BGN of that was spent on electricals and the remainder was spent on food, toys etc. Computer store Technopolis reported a 15-20% increase in sales while supermarket chain reported an increase of 10%. Appliances store chain Technomarket have seen an increase of 23% of sales.
Bulgaria's winter resorts of Borovets, Bansko and Pamporovo all enjoyed high occupancy levels with many Bulgarians choosing to stay away from home to celebrate the New Year and Christmas.
