Bulgaria's skiing hotspot of Bansko is launching the building of the country's first timber-fuelled heating plant, reports said.
The plant, which will be operational by the end of 2006, would offer the cheapest heating in the country.
The 10 Megawatt plant will be built with funding from the European Union, and the total construction cost is estimated at EUR 5 M. It would be fuelled by waste timber from the mountains of Rila, Pirin and Rhodope.
Once the plant starts working full time prices in the hotels all over Bansko should drop, as they would have lower heating bills, expert believe. The first to be heated by the new plant will be the municipality building, and all schools in the region.
